The Briars Youth Residential Centre is a provision of the Catholic Diocese of Nottingham under the guardianship of Bishop Malcolm McMahon and trustees. It is managed by the Director, programme leaders and a group of students who are taking a gap year.
A lot of the work done at the Briars contributes to the ethos and atmosphere of our school community and everyone benefits from the positive contributions that our young people offer in making these retreats an integral part of our school life.
In Year 7 we offer every student the opportunity of going on retreat to the Briars. It gives them an early experience of what it means to belong to our school and is a great way of making new friends with their peers and their tutors. In order that everyone gets the opportunity to go on retreat, we operate a split week system for Year 7 only.
Year 8 get to go for a weekend in January; this is a very popular retreat and is usually oversubscribed.
In March each year our Year 9’s are offered the opportunity of a week retreat; again this is very popular and places are in high demand.
Our students have an opportunity to go on retreat to the Briars in year 11. This forms phase 1 of reflecting on their time at our school community as they approach their final year with us
