Eco Committee

The Eco Committee is a flourishing part of our school life. We meet once a week during a lunchtime and concentrate on nine key environmental topics:

  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • Energy
  • Global Perspectives
  • Healthy Living
  • Litter
  • School Grounds
  • Transport and Waste
The Eco Committee has taken part in environmental research for the Peak National Park.
We also won a recycling competition organised by Derbyshire County Council.

Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy currently holds a Bronze and Silver award from the Eco Schools scheme and we are working towards our Green Flag in 2012.

Our large scale project was the creation and development of a sustainable allotment which now provides vegetables for the school community. In addition, students who are interested in horticulture have an opportunity to ‘try their hand’ at gardening.

This academic year, our meetings will take place on Mondays at 12.30 pm in room 21.

We are currently organising a fundraising competition

‘Guess Pudsey Bear’s Favourite Colours’.

We always welcome new members and are having a drive to attract students, particularly from the New Year 7 intake.
