Father, give me the courage to always do what is right.
Instil within me the grace that I may serve you today, as Saint John Houghton once did, through prayer and
witness. Empower me with the conviction to put my heart into all that I do for the good of others.
Provide me with the strength of mind to keep my faith. And above all, grant me the fortitude to follow your Son,
Jesus, amid the mayhem of our often chaotic world. Saint John Houghton Pray for us.
Congratulations to Daniel Ingall and Georgia Barratt who were elected Head Boy and Head girl this week. On Tuesday the six candidates addressed the school community and spoke about their desire to be Head Boy and Head Girl. The elections were held on Wednesday during lunchtime and I announced the winners to the school community at the end of the day.

I would like to express my congratulations to all six candidates on an excellent campaign. I was also very
impressed with the manner and attitude of Luke Ryrie, Kai Grant, Okorite Ephraim and Lucy Parsons in dealing with the disappointment of their loss.
Last Sunday afternoon I had the pleasure of leading our students on the Diocesan pilgrimage to Beauvale Priory. Many thanks to the students, parents, staff and friends who joined us on the walk from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Eastwood to the site. We marched with our good friends from the Priory Catholic Academy under the banner of the Saint Robert Lawrence Academy Trust.
Mass was led by Fr Gerry Murphy in the grounds of the ruins of the Priory in beautiful sunshine. Our students took an active part in the liturgy. Thank you to all who joined us on a beautiful day.

Today, Friday 10th of May is the day we celebrate as Saint John Houghton day. A detailed report of our
celebrations will follow in next week’s letter.
This Saturday, it’s World Fairtrade Day – a time when the global fair trade movement comes together to
celebrate the millions of people in developing countries who help put the food on our tables.
This year, the Fairtrade Foundation wanted to make sure you have the opportunity to talk to some of them directly. They’ve worked with three Fairtrade farming groups in Malawi to make AskMalawi.tv – where you can do exactly that. So for World Fair Trade Day, why not spend five minutes getting to know the Fairtrade farmers a little better?
Your challenge is to book five minutes in your diary this Saturday, to go online and AskMalawi the question you’ve always wanted to. If you do, let us know what you found out!
On Thursday the Year 8 Kick Start boys went to Waterworld in Stoke. This was to celebrate the end to a fantastic project that the boys have been involved in. During the project they have participated in a number of sports and activities, including fitness, football, basketball, ten pin bowling and they had a visit from an ex Olympic badminton player.
The boys have been a credit to Saint John Houghton and their behaviour has been impeccable throughout. Mr Ritchie would like to thank the following boys for participating in the project.

Ryan Whitehead, Alex Holmer, Bobby Hunter, Owen Musselwhite, Harry Brady, Rhys O'Donnell, Finn
Broderick, Mason Bramley, Kieran Peabody, Brandon Walster, Cameron Preston, Sam Morley, Joe Heath, Jack
Bird and Emi Ephraim.
Mr Ritchie and Mr Farrell would like to congratulate the Year Seven Cricket Team for their victory in the Erewash North Schools District Championship! They beat Kirk Hallam to progress to the next round.
